Thanks to a seemingly unstoppable stream of innovations in communications and master strokes of engineering, we are now more connected then ever before.  A person can easily call up their friends across the seas in Norway or Japan without missing a beat.  We can video-chat with our loved ones in real time, despite being separated by thousands of miles.  Technology has made our lives practically boundless in this sense.
